Plastic Surgery Scar – How I Got Mine

October 2nd, 2009

I had a tummy tuck done around 5 years ago.  It left a big scar from hip to hip.  The bad thing is that the scar isn’t in the usual round shape, but more like in a V shape, and it extends past the top of my hips.  A good part of the scar is still visible when I’m only in my underwear.

It’s been 5 years since I’ve had the surgery.  For the first year or so the scar was red, thick, and raised, and itched a lot.  After the first year or so, it became a little bit lighter and flatter, but not by much, although the itching did stop.  At first I was still hopeful that more healing would take place, but the improvements stopped and has stayed that way for the past 3 years or so.

It’s not really bothering me all that much, because the scar isn’t formally in a visible place.  However, I’m only in my late twenties and sometimes I wished I could wear a nice two-piece bathing suit when I go to the beach or the pool, especially since I’ve managed to lose some weight successfully recently.  I’m so tired of having to wear a one-piece just because I’m so self-conscious of that big, red, ugly scar!

I’ve been using Mederma but it doesn’t seem to be working.  I’m currently asking for advice in different online forums on how I can minimize or eliminate my scar.  If you have any advice for me, please feel free to leave them in the comments.  Thanks in advance for your help!
